January Brings The Snow
January brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow.February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.March brings breezes sharp and shrill,
Shakes the dancing daffodil.April brings the primrose sweet,
Scatters daisies at our feet.May brings flocks of pretty lambs,
Skipping by their fleecy dams.June brings tulips, lillies, roses,
Fills the children’s hands with posies.Hot July brings cooling showers,
Apricots and gillyflowers.August brings the sheaves of corn,
Then the harvest home is borne.Warm September brings the fruit,
Sportsmen then begin to shoot.Brown October brings the pheasant,
Then to gather nuts is pleasant.Dull November brings the blast,
Then the leaves go whirling past.Chill December brings the sleet,
Blazing fire and Christmas treat.
I’ve recently been introduced to this nursery rhyme, I have never heard it before, ever! Actually, there’s probably a million and one other nursery rhymes that I have yet to come across, but this is the first ‘new’ one of this year!
Towards the end of 2010, I wrote several posts about the weather we were experiencing in and around Aquatom mansion. The bizarre weather conditions, which didn’t seem that strange after several days of experiencing them. Things started to go back to normal after a couple of weeks, and we were back to experiencing ‘normal’ weather.
We are still experiencing normal weather today, lovely rain, and extremely strong winds. According to the above nursery rhyme, the rain is about right for February, but the winds seem to have come a month early. One thing that I like about the wind and rain combination is the sound of the raindrops on the window, and the wind howling through the trees – well, it would have been howling even more so if the trees hadn’t been cut down a couple of weeks ago (they never replanted any new ones…) Howling aside, I like listening to this kind of weather when I am tucked up in bed. I also enjoy being outside in the driving rain, so I’m easily pleased!
I like the kind of extreme weather we experience around these parts. They are a great conversation point, but soon things return to normal, and we have the usual sunshine or cloud. If the weather was any more extreme, as things currently are in Australia, I don’t think I would be as keen.
One thing the weather shows us is just how powerful the natural forces of nature are. From the gentle breeze to the powerful hurricane the wind is still the same wind, just acting in a different way.
The wind outside my window tonight is neither a breeze nor a hurricane, but somewhere in between. When it is still, it is very, very quiet. When it gusts, the force within it is audible.
And it is this force, this energy, that fascinates me the most. I see this as the same energy that flows through all of us, connects all of us to everything on the planet. The same energy that is within the wind is within our thoughts. If the energy can add power to the wind, it can add power to our thoughts too. So, if we have an idea, we have the energy within us to take the idea as far as we want to… we too can be the breeze or the hurricane.
