The Unicorn Challenge: Hidey Hole

“My sweet pomegranate,” Ognar Rance stopped as he walked along Avian Way with his wife, Myrtle, “throw it in here, quickly.”

“In that tree?” Myrtle chuckled. “That’s an excellent idea!” She took the small parcel out of her handbag and gently but firmly placed it inside a large hole in the trunk of a tree, just out of sight.

Myrtle stood up straight beside her husband just as Barbara Barber approached them from around the corner.

“Oh, I’m glad I’ve run into you two,” Barbara said breathlessly, “our Glynis has been in the shop with that Edvard von Grünne from the events committee wanting to know if I’d seen you. I said I hadn’t, but now I have.”

Myrtle and Ognar waited in anticipation.

“Oh,” Barbara said after a long pause, “they need to know if you’ve got everything hidden for the treasure hunt.”

“Indeed we have,” Myrtle clasped her hands, “in fact, we’re on our way to the Cock o’ Hoop now to let them know.”

“Oh, I can go there for you, if you’d like,” Barbara said, “just give me the list of the locations and I’ll let them know for you.”

“We didn’t keep a list, Barbara,” Ognar said, “we thought it best to hide our items without one.” He tapped his nose. “Just so it doesn’t get into the wrong hands.”

“Oh!” Barbara sighed, looking over the road. “There’s the D’Orreurs… I’ll see if they’ve got a list.”

With that, the Rances watched Barbara speed away.

Posted for The Unicorn Challenge, a magical challenge hosted by Jenne Gray and C E Ayr. They provide a photo and we provide 250 words in return. I couldn’t resist revisiting the Rances!

      Thanks, Sue.
I’m still here, although I’m exploring other areas of the universe that are taking up quite a bit of time right now. My spiritual development beckons… and it is fabulous! I will be over to your site soon!

Welcome back, Tom – good to see you again.
And good to see that the Rances are doing well.
There’s a Barbara Barber on every treausre hunt, isn’t there, trying to be devious.
But she’s reckoned without the rances – no flies on those two cheery chaps!

That Barbara’s intentions are not hidden at all. No need for a list from her! 🤣

Hehehe. I have a feeling that cheating wouldn’t help her anyway, Liz! 😄
