Old Friends, New Friends

Continuing '... of Heroes and the Misunderstood...', a Six Sentence Serial story co-written by Clark from The Wakefield Doctrine and myself. All previous parts of the story can be found here.

‘Well, that was a complete waste of time,’ Rocco said as he walked between Rue DeNite and Isla Sora, following Moonbeam as they crossed the grainy Mooncross Industries car park toward their SUV, ‘and definitely not worth getting an army involved…’ he looked over at Isla.

‘That was meant to be a discreet training operation on their part, instead it thrust them into the public’s awareness… luckily,’ Isla looked around, ‘the company’s intelligence connections smoothed over that issue, but unluckily for the HR manager as she lost her job over it. I and they were sent to get you with the purpose of seeing the Order about the arrangement.’

‘James Moonssen… it’s been a few years… it’s good to see you again…’ Moonbeam reached the SUV and instantly recognised the man speaking to him, standing by the adjacent vehicle with the driver side door open, ‘I now know how you felt that day!’

‘Alex Jokullson…’ Moonbeam ran over and shook his old friend’s hand, ‘I wondered if I’d get to see you here… things are still as odd as ever, I see – oh, and I go by the name Moonbeam now.’

‘Still odd, yes…’ Alex began to laugh as his mobile phone rang, he held up his right index finger and nodded and smiled towards Moonbeam as he answered, listened for a few seconds, and said, ‘now look, Anya, I have no idea who you are, I don’t really care who you are, and I no longer work for Mooncross, so I suggest you find someone else’s phone number in the company and offer your type of help to them…’, he ended the call, looked back up at Moonbeam, and repeated, ‘still odd… yes.’
