The Unicorn Challenge: Found

And the Hallowe’en posts continue!

Coming! Ready or not!

Philip listened to the scampering footsteps as his friends ran to their hiding places. He knew someone had run upstairs; out through the back door; moved a sofa; and into the kitchen… the creak of the door gave that one away.

Aha!

He peered behind the living room sofa that was at an odd angle in its usual place. There was no one there.

He ran to the patio door and looked around the edges of the lawn: empty.

He quickly opened the kitchen door, ignoring the squeaky hinges, and checked in all the possible hiding places he could think of: no sign of anyone.

With a smirk, he ran upstairs, stopping abruptly on the landing. The door to the room at the top of the stairs was open.

He slowly walked into the room.

It was as cold as he remembered it… as cold as ice.

A noise inside the wardrobe startled him. Although he didn’t want to, he opened the door, suddenly wishing he hadn’t.

The Bandaged Man stood, smirking, with his extended bandages wrapped around the wrists and ankles of his four friends.

Without thinking, one by one, Philip yanked his friends free and out of the wardrobe. He pointed to the door for them to run out.

As he ran to chase them out of the room, a bandage wrapped around his chest, pulling him back, into the wardrobe.

Hello Philip. Welcome home.

The voice echoed as the wardrobe vanished from view.

Ooh, that’s a scary one, Tom, and a great illustration of the saying, ‘No good deed goes unpunished.’
    Fabulous unicorn picture too!

I like the Bandaged Man, a bit like a Mummy with a curse.
    Cool and creepy!

Thanks, CE. I wanted a Mummy feel, but with a slight difference! 🙂

Interesting variation on being wrapped up in the search. Could have been worse; there could have been a lion and a witch in there as well. 😉

Perhaps they’ll be waiting at the other end, Doug, when the wardrobe rematerialises! 🤔

“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” ~ John Wesley

Phillip took this quote too seriously. IMHO

It looks that way, Ladysighs. 🙂
Regarding that quote, is it normal to feel shattered after reading it? It seems a long way of suggesting just to be the best version of oneself… 🤣

I was looking for a quote that rather meant … Don’t try to be superman and found one that seemed to say … be superman all the time. lol I liked your story. 🙂
