The couple walked further into the woods, eyes looking everywhere. As they reached the edge, the bright sunshine beyond caused them both to stop.
The man, Seddon, looked at the woman, Veyla, and said, “Well, it can’t be here – we’re almost out again now.”
Veyla looked confused. “I don’t know. It was dark, don’t forget.”
“You must have some idea, though,” Seddon said, “it isn’t as though it’s that big of a wood. Why did you throw your bag in here anyway?”
“I told you,” Veyla said defensively, “the lights and the noise frightened me. My bag was too heavy, and I thought I’d be quicker running without it.”
They started walking back along the path they’d just followed, looking around the trees and under the bushes for the bright red bag. Seddon spotted it after a few minutes hanging from one of the tree’s branches, high up.
“How did you manage to get it up there?” Seddon was now the confused one.
Veyla began to answer but stopped as a strong wind suddenly appeared around them, quickly followed by a mixture of a high-pitched screech and a thumping pulse. They were then surrounded by a bright white light, although they were shaded from the sun by the trees.
Before they could move any further, they found themselves being lifted from the ground and up through the woods, through the now parted canopy of leaves, towards a metallic-looking craft above with multicoloured lights flashing around the side.
