A Name Like Any Other

“Pendragon… Pendragon Pendragon no, no… Petulance… definitely not… Purity… heavens to Betsy, no!”

Queen Marigold chomped on a chocolate bar and waved the book in front of Cornelius’s face. “This is now the sixteenth book of ‘names’, none of which are in alphabetical order, and none even remotely resonate with me for the baby’s name.”

Cornelius reached behind him for the next book, grabbing the dictionary instead, “Pick one out of here, let’s have done with it,” he said, without even noticing.

The thick book fell open on the table in front of them, and Marigold spun her right index finger around in the air for a couple of times before plonking it down on a random word; she felt the baby move inside her as she did so, “the littlun approves!”

She was convinced the baby was now jumping for joy… “Petrichor… Petrichor Pendragon… yes, it has a richness to it that simulates the senses… a name that’s born to reign!”

Written for Six Sentence Stories. This week, Denise has chosen Petrichor for the prompt word… and with it comes the birth of another new character!

Beautifully done Tom,… Petrichor Pendragon, …I had to copy it, …with my typing it’d take me ages to get it right, …alternatively it just rolls off the tongue, …✨👏✨😉✨

Thanks, Sue. Petrichor is one of those words that came into my life a long time after a lot of others… I think this may be the first time I’ve ever used it! 😅

Petrichor is an interesting name for a child. Especially for someone with the last name Pendragon.

I think the Pendragons got bored of searching for a name, Frank… and went with the first thing they found! 🙂

Excellent! It would certainly be unique.

My unscientific but motherly advice for choosing a baby name is to go outside the back door and yell it at the top of your lungs ten times (because that’s how you’re going to hear it for the next 18 years) and if you still like it, it’s a contender.

Thanks, Mimi… and your suggestion for choosing a name makes more sense than randomly picking a word out of the dictionary! 🤣

Thinking more about that now, Denise, perhaps the term ‘sledgehammer’ was overegging it a bit… maybe this is more of an inflatable hammer approach. 🤣
      Thanks, Denise! 🙂
