Ait-takes

I’ve been ‘creating’ art recently through an Artificial Intelligence interface, which generates a piece of artwork based upon keywords entered into it. I’m not entirely sure how it works, but apparently, it scours the internet looking for other pieces of art, drags pieces from them, and puts them back together into the new art form. Or something like that.

It actually is quite impressive how something can be created in the blink of an eye… although things aren’t exactly perfect, and sometimes, another one or two attempts are needed.

At first, things look fine:

But on closer inspection, things are clearly not. This man has five fingers.

That dinosaur is flying without wings.

This viking has a designer party helmet on.

And this vampire picture… well, how many legs does a vampiress need?

It’s fun, creating these pieces, and ideal if a quick image is needed for a blog post (with the caveat of recreation as highlighted above), but before you know it an hour’s passed!

My intention is to create using AI, and then use the creation as a starting point, or inspiration to produce something else through my usual artistic methods. Already some creations have become characters in my short stories.

It’s a pretty handy creation tool… but perhaps a bit too ‘handy’ (with a nod to the first image above)!

Posted partly in response to Caffeinated Philosophy ‘s prompt What art is to me.

Hand-y indeed. AI art is a very interesting emerging phenomenon right now. I’ve played around with it quite a bit as well. Thanks for joining in, Tom!

      My pleasure, CC!😀
AI’s good, but there is an element to it I’m not too sure of. It seems fine for inspiration, though!

Haha, I have had similar results especially with fingers!

Even with the oddities, the results look good, Paula, in most cases.

At first glance, totally ok, …maybe we were created that way, ….you know, 1st try, nope, trial and error, ..kinda thing, …waiting to see your updates, …four fingered an’ all, …✨🙏✨

      Now there’s a challenge! 😆
When I get back onto my ‘mainframe’ 😎, I shall see if I can fix what went wrong with these images… or create new versions of them!
Trial and error… yes, Penn, I see that! 🙂

I’d rather not go there, Tom, but I’m a bit old-fashioned.

That’s fine, Jo, it isn’t for everyone. There’s a news article that caught my eye today (apparently from the ‘AI creator’) which said AI could cause extinction… and then it went on to list the ways how AI could cause extinction… 😒 Fearmongering certainly doesn’t help, but as long as the AI artwork continues to be imperfect, then to me, it’s OK. It’s fun, but it’s still more fun creating my own pieces.

Ah yes… AI…hmm!! Yes…nothing at all to do with why it’s taking so long to visit blogs and get a post up…nothing at all!😂 Hours pass unnoticed when playing with AI! Have you tried using an image alongside the written prompts? I’ve had some awesome results and it’s amazing what it does with my personally created images…my hard drive storage space is diminishing like no tomorrow because you can’t just stop with 1…10…100+ generations when they get better and better with each one🤣😂😆

I shall try it with my own creations when I get back onto my computer, Icewolf… I’m just onth’ mobile for now. More external storage is needed, it seems! 😃

Maybe she’s a vampire octopus and her other five legs are hidden! 🐙

It’s fun, Chris, but frustrating for the reasons mentioned in this post. That said, I’m pleased it creates them wrong, which shows the computer mind isn’t as perfect as it could be… unless that is what it’s making us think! 😳
