Plunged into darkness (well, the semi midafternoon winter darkness) as a result of a power cut, the Mansion is without light or heat. I’m huddled under a nice blanket, finger-tapping away at my mobilius phoneus, noticing the icy grip around my hands (fortunately, one can still type away with a rigid finger).

I’m using the ‘new’ editor on the WordPress mobile site to do this, which in itself is as challenging as the current predicament I’m in, but by jiminy I’m not going to be defeated.

Not that I had anything to type, I hasten to add, but as one cannot do a thing when there’s no power, writing anything is an obvious choice.

Writing or sleeping, but sleep must be saved for later.

Power is expected to be restored at just after 6pm, so that gives me two hours now to twiddle my thumbs.

Although, as I typed that, the standby light on the TV has just turned on, and there’s something making a ticking noise now! ๐Ÿ˜ณ So that calls for my Inner Detective to get on the case and investigate.

Such joys of living in the modern age… the power’s just gone off again. It seems the power company are working hard… I think I’ll leave them to it for now…

  1. Sounds familiar TL….I just had a big storm, a foot and a half of wet, heavy snow to shovel away from what felt like a gazillion walkways. Got it done only to read we are due another big storm Friday just in time to mess up everybody’s Christmas. Such thoughtful masters of the Universe…To heck with them, we will find ways to celebrate and be thankful for life and carry on to the finish line anyway! Keep warm TL and maybe a room with a fireplace would be helpful? There must be several there? Happy Sunday ๐Ÿ™‚ VK

    1. Ah well, it all passes the time, VK, doesn’t it? The power seems to be back on again now, but I don’t feel like moving just yet… this blanket is now so cosy!
And yes… there was a room once with a fireplace… I shall have to see if I can find it again!
Hope your forthcoming storm blows over quickly, giving you more time to enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I hope your power is soon restored, Tom! We lose power frequently here in the winter, so our coping mechanisms are well-developed. It’s an inconvenience, but one thing I do enjoy is the silence with nothing humming or running… until the house starts to get cold. Then I really appreciate the sound of the furnace when the power comes on again! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks, Diane. It’s the second time this week, so something is going on somewhere! The power was restored within 75 minutes, I would say… although (I kid you not!) it has just gone off again!

  3. Three years ago, we had the power gone off on New Year’s Eve; we entertained the situation with lots of candles and live music ( benefit of having multiple non electric musical instruments๐Ÿ˜Š)…next year, happened again…it wasn’t funny and I was not entertained (to answer the immortal question from The Gladiator๐Ÿ˜„)…
So now I am thinking I better check that old gramophone and have it at the ready!

    1. Forewarned is forearmed, Nick, so it’s best to have a backup plan just in case. I will be out for Christmas Day, so hopefully the power will remain on at where I’m going… and New Year’s, well, I can always do with a little extra sleep if needs must! ๐Ÿคฃ
Here’s hoping you’re thoroughly entertained this year! All the best to you. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Ah! I didn’t realise this was a post that had snuk into my w.p. notifications! My comment on A Wintry Scene would have been better placed here if I’d known at that point. At least your rigid finger was tapping away in the w.p. editor, mine usually finds itself sliding slyly away to the photoshop editor when I’m not paying proper attention to it! Tricky things these fingers…even when they’re frozen into rigidity!

    1. I would have been on the music creator thingy… well actually, I was until I, er, wasn’t. I’m still not musical, but I’m having a blast shoving the sounds together!
I’m so hip these days! Groovy! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Apparently, so I’ve heard on the grapevine, load shedding is on its way here too in the New Year. It could have been on the fear mongering vine, though, thinking about it.
Nice to see you again, Chris ๐Ÿ™‚. Hope you’re doing well.
