The Co-ordination of Supervillains

Bubblegum sat, legs up, with her right leg bent slightly at the knee and crossed over her left, on the sofa in the lounge, absentmindedly flicking through the pages of the latest copy of her favourite gossip magazine, neither reading words or looking at pictures, whilst at the same time blowing huge bubbles with her regular cherry-flavoured bubblegum, bursting them, chewing once more, and then repeating the progress.

Moonbeam walked into the room, dressed in a tight-fitting vest top and shorts, hot and sweaty after his daily fifteen-mile run, and plonked himself down on the sofa, almost on Bubblegumโ€™s legs.

โ€œWatch it sunshine…โ€ Bubblegum snapped, closing the magazine and throwing it onto the coffee table next to the sofa behind her, โ€œif just one droplet of your wetness touches me, youโ€™ll be finding something extra special ground up in one of your teas.โ€

Moonbeam stood and moved over to the chair opposite, โ€œyouโ€™re a bit grumpy today B, whatโ€™s wr…โ€ he couldnโ€™t finish speaking as Bubblegum huffed loudly, grabbed her magazine and stormed out of the room without uttering another word.

Matthew Mist faded into view on the part of the sofa Moonbeam had just been sitting, and smiled at Moonbeam, โ€œI donโ€™t mind the wet,โ€ he said as his smile became a smirk, โ€œbut donโ€™t mind me โ€“ you can sit in me any time!โ€

โ€œThat is gross…โ€ Moonbeam screwed his face, โ€œand I donโ€™t even want to know what you were doing there… but aside from that, I saw something very interesting at the bank earlier, as I took a quick detour and ran across the road just up the street from it; Jordan and Ellova were there, talking to a policeman; I think theyโ€™re up to something…โ€

โ€˜Witnessโ€™ has been written for Six Sentence Stories, where the prompt word this week is โ€˜Detourโ€™.

Part four of this ongoing story featuring the Co-Ordination of Supervillains is here; part three here, part two here, and part one, here.

You’ve left me with a slightly soggy feeling, Tom!

It’s the characters, Chris, not me!
They aren’t bothered by what they make us write, are they? ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜‚
But, then again, these are a villainous lot, and will probably try to push boundaries a little further than the normal, everyday characters!

Apologies, Tom. ‘Them’ not you. What else should I expect from a bunch of Supervillans?๐Ÿ˜‰

    Nicely drawn characters!
Always trying to learn the balance between behavior and description (of characters).. I usually have enough of visual to recognize them if, they were walking in the opposite direction on a sidewalk. But I like what you’ve done which, to me, is to hide a bunch of descriptors in the action words and the adverbs.
    Have to try.

Funny tho, with maybe one exception I like all my characters, even the ones that might give the impression to the Reader that they (the characters) don’t care what they think of them.

      Thanks, Clark.
I think you have to like your characters, even the difficult ones; after all, they’re the ones leading the story… allow them the freedom and they’ll fill a page a lot quicker than trying to come up with the ideas for them! It seems like a paradox, but a fabulous immersive one.

Yikes, I’ve missed a lot. It will take me a while to get caught up, but these are definitely intriguing characters. A lot of good “show don’t tell” through your descriptions.

Yes, these are fun characters to write… and I’m sure they’ll fill us all in with what’s been happening as time moves forward!

I’m liking Bubblegum so much. Will check the other tales out. The art reminds me a little of an AI art-to-text programme I was recently working with (there are a lot of them out there now), producing some amazing, and at times unsettling images.

Bubblegum’s a character we’ll get to know more about in this series, Ford, I feel.
The art is computer generated, in a 3D program, but not AI… it’s TI (Tom Intelligence ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Š)
I’ll have to look into these art-to-text programs, I like anything that uses colour and moves along the creative process! (Unsettling sometimes triggers inspiration!)

Ford took the words almost out of my mouth, lol. Bubblegum. Awesome name for a super villian, lol
Oh, yeah, they’re up to something! And we’ll just have to wait to find out ๐Ÿ˜

Indeed they are up to something, Denise… I just wish they’d tell me what, so I can push their story along! ๐Ÿ™‚
Bubblegum’s head is now almost as big as the bubbles she blows! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
