Mansion Musings

I sit here, thinking of something to write as my computer runs a virus scan in the background. In the background, apparently, I should add, as it has ground the computer almost to a halt. And this is the virus scan! Goodness knows how the computer would operate if, somehow, a virus did manage to manifest itself inside of it. It would probably lock it down completely. Sigh. I think we’ve seen enough of those to last us a lifetime now.

Maybe it will work better in Windows 11. Maybe the updates will work better in Windows 11 too, thinking about it. They grind the computer to a halt in Windows 10, as they install their bits and bobs in the background, leaving me wondering if, somehow, a virus has got into my computer and is causing it to go slow. This in turn prompts me to run a virus scan, in the background, which probably explains why, now that I have two things running in the background, the computer decides to go on an even slower go slow.

So, I’ve answered my question.

I’ll post this, and leave the computer to it. Them. Whatever.

I’m on Windows 8.1, I have no plans to ‘upgrade’; there’s no reason to do so: oh, wait: Windows 8.1 Extended Support stops in January 10, 2023, so I’m going to have to ‘upgrade’ (read: ‘migrate’) to a different operating system in about 18 months’ time; I’ll have no choice.

In my opinion, it’s way past time this monolithic behemoth called ‘Microsoft’ was nationalised, or rather ‘globalised’, so that it couldn’t use its monopolistic power to force folk to change systems that aren’t broken.

I know that things have to move forward, and I’m happy with that, but change just for change sake is a bit pointless. And annoying at times.

I HATE W10! I only got it cos I had to replace my laptop. I can hear it grinding away in the background the whole time, and it is SO SLOW to open documents. I don’t want the updates, I don’t want MacAfee. I just want to get on with my writing!
    Sorry, Tom. Rant over.

Hehehe! Sorry, Chris… you’ll be (ahem) forced to upgrade to Windows 11 some day soon. Not imminently, but some day, soon.
      It may be better! 🤣😉😊

I know, MS keeps telling me about it. I only just coughed for W10 a few weeks ago. But surely W11 couldn’t be worse?! 😔

For me, apart from the updates, Windows 10 has been fine. So if they improve the updates in 11, it will be a bonus. Just read, however, it may not be available to all computers…
