Vertiginous

For One Word Sunday this week, Debbieโ€™s theme is Vertiginous.

Now, Iโ€™m not going to lie. I had to look the word up, which, to me, is actually the opposite of what it means.

Vertiginous:
adjective

  • extremely high or steep.
  • relating to or affected by vertigo.

Can you be affected by vertigo by looking up something steep? I suppose you could, but looking down from such steep heights gives me a quick feeling of โ€˜ughโ€™!

Here are two photos from the late 1990s from the side of the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. I was leaning on a wall when these photos were taken. The wall provided a certain level of safety, although I did have a fear that I would drop the camera. I suppose that comes with being so high up (and nothing to do with being ever so slightly clumsy and accident proneโ€ฆ!)

Visit Debbieโ€™s site on the link above for more takes on this weekโ€™s theme.

Whoa! Would not want to be looking over the edge of that bridge….Not into heights. What a bungie jump that would be! Good choice Tl….VK ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t think bungee jumps were around when I was there, VK… not that I’d have done it if they were. I did a similar kind of thing once from a crane on a pier… that was bad enough!

That second photo makes me feel a bit queasy, Tom, so it does work! Possibly assisted by the fact that I’ve just finished my lunch ๐Ÿ˜‰ Looking away now.

Don’t blame you, Chris. Heights after lunch never go down well!

Glad you told us what the word means. Maybe a strap around your neck would keep from losing the camera.

That camera was on a strap, Beverly! Nowadays I use my mobilius phoneus as a camera… and have the same fear with that!

My first thought was – whoa – that was quite the project to squeeze that road into that space.

You’ve just made me realise I hadn’t given that road any thoughts, Frank! An interesting perspective.
