If boots were made for walking, I need a new pair!

The Aquamobile has been out of action today, a new battery was needed in the end, so hopefully everything is alright now; although this wasn’t the New Beginning I had in mind when I added my twilight post yesterday. Still, a new beginning it was, so I can’t complain there.

I have forgotten how to walk. Well, more to the point, I have forgotten how to walk far. Short distances are not a problem, but right now, I feel as though I have ran eight marathons back to back, with a nail neatly pushed through my right foot for dramatic effect. My left foot has been slightly sore for a while now anyway, which I have put down to the joys of getting old. Older. I mean the joys of getting older. Which, obviously I’m not as I’m always 24. I have been for many years.

Anyway, moving on. Up for work at 6am. Went to the car at 8am and it wouldn’t start, so walk number one was to work. Thirty five minutes later, I arrived at work. Slightly late, but hey, I’ve had to walk. No pains in either foot at this time, although I was rather warm and had to wait another 45 minutes before I was cooled down enough to be comfortable to start work. By which time I was freezing cold, and had to pop my jacket back on. Pesky air conditioning!

Booked the afternoon off work – I love last minute holidays, but I would really love them if I didn’t need to do anything on them! – and then worked steadily until my shift finished. Well, as steadily as I could as I felt as though I had a stone in my right shoe. How it got there by just sitting still for an hour or so is beyond me, but it was there. I made a quick escape to check it out, and remove the blithering thing, but while I was in the toilet cubicle at work, I noticed there was no stone. Nothing. I walked back to the office, and after half an hour the stone ‘feeling’ had returned. So, it was me.

My shift finished, and walk number two followed. Home. My normally sore foot was feeling a little tender now, and my right foot was aching quite a bit with this stone thing, but I managed to get home, although I was limping by the end. I’m such a lightweight when it comes to achy feet and legs.

For some reason, all of this walking has caused a blister to appear on the sole of my right foot, which was why I could feel the ‘stone’. I had no choice but to walk quite a bit this afternoon, as my car was being sorted out, but it wasn’t too bad. Glorious sunshine, nice pleasant breeze, I didn’t notice how far I was actually walking. Which is really a euphemism for the fact that I have walked a zillion miles. And then I had to walk some more to collect my car. Now, I’m not saying that I don’t do any exercise, but I really could do with doing more than I actually do. We’re designed for walking, so we shouldn’t really experience side effects from doing it, should we? Unless the side effects are withdrawal symptoms from sitting, resting and erm, sleeping; which is probably the case in my case.

Since sitting down in the car, and resting later, my legs have joined in with my achy feet. But never mind! I’ve had a different day! I’m sure to sleep later… if only I could remember how I flew in my dreams; that would have saved a lot of time if I could fly here, there and everywhere, rather than having to use the old tried and tested method, but I can’t fly in real life (yet), so walking it is!Blue Boot

Maybe the new beginning is more exercise for me. If it is, I’ll need some proper decent walking boots… the work shoes I wear aren’t designed for the miles I have put in them today. Exercise… I’ll sleep on it, and see how I feel tomorrow. I know I really should, but old habits die hard. However, to make a difference, to make a change, we only need to start off with a single step. I’m way ahead here then…!

sorry about the car, but great about the walking! sorrier about your blister, your poor foot! poor you!

personal rule of mine is to only buy shoes and boots that i can walk all day and night in – there is no time for sore feet and you never know how long your journey is going to be or if there is dancing when you get there.

All’s fine now, thanks Bex… I do my dancing sitting down usually, so maybe I should buy some better walking shoes.

“If boots were made for walking?” If? What is it going to take to settle this philosophical question? Yes, boots were made for walking. What else could they have been made for?

I must apologise that my title appeared as a question, it was in fact a plea of exasperation on my part.
However, I do know of several people who use boots as plant pots, and one person who wears a pair as earrings…

I love walking, Sir Aquatom, but one must wear the right footwear for the action one is in the process of doing. I went back to the PDSA with some of Bess’s dog food which they could make use of, I walked back from the site, about two miles, and it felt wonderful, but tiring, as by the end my feet were protesting, (big white placards appeared in front of my eyes, saying ‘we protest at your cruelty’ ).. and I sat down by the local canal bank and stared into the water. Thinking and remembering and tear-ing up, but strangely almost content from the exercise. I’m changing my regime to walk more places every day, it seems to help. So, good luck with your single step, it leads wherever you want to go. xPenx

Hi Pen, feet have a strange way of telling you they’re tired don’t they? Thank you for commenting!
