Goodness Gracious!!!

What is this? Only one post in a day?

This is exactly that! I said that I wanted to post more, but posting more does not mean that I have to post more than once a day! At least once a day means that at times I need to only post once. And this is one of those times. This is the first time this year that I have posted only once.

There is another reason for posting only once.

And, just in case you hadn’t noticed this is only one post. Just the one. One. Once. Once only. Only one.

Only.

One.

ONE.

There. Are we alone now? Then I’ll begin.

I feel that it is really important at times to just take time out. Lie in a darkened room and simply chill. Clear my mind of thoughts about today, yesterday and tomorrow. Whatever is going on out there will still be going on when I rejoin the rest of the world, but for now, I’m here in my own space. I don’t actually have to do nothing… I can read, write, sing, dance, light a candle or two, look at the stars (either the real ones in the sky or those in my minds eye, it doesn’t matter). Anything to take my mind off ‘out there’ and focus on me. And not my health, my body, my hair – not the physical me – the whole me.

I feel that at times, one needs to regroup mind, body and spirit, and it is almost impossible to get the balance when driving, being spoken to, hearing a TV in the background or thinking about a conversation in work.

Taking time out helps to recharge the batteries. If I fall asleep having a moment, so be it. I may just as well get an inspired idea.

Taking time out for me also stops anything that may be playing on my mind from taking over, and also seems to give me a little more strength to deal with it later.

And taking time out allows me to feel good about myself, and be grateful for what I have.

Life is really amazing. Taking time to appreciate it is amazing too. Well, I think so anyway.

Oops… time to join the world again…

this reminds me of this excellent article from Harpers of a few years ago – it was all about the virtue of being idle and what we lose we when are busy all the time.

i love being idle – i find that my most interesting (and dangerous!) ideas come from being idle.

some of the most creative and intelligent people i know really know how to do not much of anything sometimes.

i like this a lot – sometimes i think that people would be far happier if sometimes, they just did nothing.

It’s another of those ‘things in balance’ activities though… too much of doing nothing isn’t particularly good; and neither is not enough.

    I think I’ve got that balance right – I’m happy! 🙂
