Pickanickl’s Quest (4)

The previous part

Darkness.

She blinked a few times, adjusting her vision so she could make out a few shadows amongst the shadows. “Where…?” she asked, slowly sitting up.

“Awake…” whispered a voice, although she couldn’t fathom where from. “Asleep.” It whispered again.

“Be gone!” Commanded a male voice; startling her with its loud echo. “You shouldn’t be here.”

“Where am I?” Pickanickl asked the darkness. “Tell me how to go, and I’ll go.”

“You’ll be able to leave shortly,” the man said, “I was repelling the serpent. He shouldn’t be here – you, Pickanickl, should.”

She noticed a white light shimmering ahead of her, behind which she could make out a rough wall. The caves. She was back in the P’tor Caves! The voice she was hearing didn’t belong to Skaglad, nor did it sound like any of the other guards she’d heard. How long had she been out?

“You’re safe here, Pickanickl.” The voice interrupted her thoughts, “but you mustn’t stay here long.”

“Why bring me here then?” Pickanickl hoped she wasn’t being toyed with again.

“You brought yourself here, you must take yourself back.” A different voice this time whispered behind her.

The shimmering light grew larger, large enough for a figure to step through. “I called for your help. I need your help, and you came.”

Pickanickl still couldn’t make out the details on the face, but she could sense a strong magical, omnipotent feel.

“I am Caldane, Locke’s son.” The man said calmly.

“The Time Goddess?” Pickanickl was confused.

More soon…

Thanks, Chris. I have some idea what’s going on here, but keeping the parts to 250 words is tricky! I mean, I say some idea, but only a very small ‘some’! 🙂

          It’s a good challenge, though.
